Philosophy

Dialogue along the way to the studio

Every sculpture I create is an attempt to perceive eternity within a fleeting moment. Naturally, this is no simple task. I choose molten metal as a medium because it brings a sense of alchemy - a complex process through which I witness a reincarnation, as the still and industrial becomes alive, warm and expressive before my eyes. Through this, I can finally share these fleeting moments with others.

How can I be bold enough to pursue this art? My early passion was the 90s rock movement. In Russia, it sparked an incredible surge of raw, authentic emotion - especially vibrant against the total collapse of the Soviet Union and the absurd constraints of socialism. Later, I combined this energy and rhythm with professional jewelry techniques, creating my own unique artistic "alloy".

I have always been fascinated by graphics, because one simple line means so much and can change a lot! The COP (coefficient of performance) of a single line is huge compared to a painting... smile. Can you imagine my joy when I first felt the resilient wire in my hands and tried to draw it not on flat paper, but directly into free space? I still cannot tear myself away from this process.

Yes, I don't fill in the empty areas; I leave out too much. But these empty volumes are like silent words between lines, through which we can convey the most meaningful things... that we could never say out loud, right? Each viewer reads their own story here. Moments pass by, and these words change along with their author.

This visual game extends the life of the sculptures, and they never become too familiar. Shifting daylight and evening shadows redraw the figures every day, bringing a sense of endless variety.

So, all of it - the lightness and resilience, the smooth waves and sharp contours, the bright golden glow and the contrasts of black and white, my efforts and my joy - it all comes together. It becomes my language. And this language helps me share what truly matters: how unique every single moment is, and how it can become ever-lasting.

Biography

Olga Bajova
(b. 1972, Novosibirsk)

Olga Bajova is a contemporary sculptor and metal artist whose work seamlessly blends architectural forms with the intimacy of fine jewelry. She was formed by the intellectual atmosphere of Siberia’s Akademgorodok, as well as her background in music and pedagogy. Together, these roots guided her toward a profound existential inquiry through sculpture.

Bajova’s sculptural language is inherently graphic. She translates the immediacy of a drawn line into three-dimensional space, creating weightless, dynamic structures from brass, copper and steel. Using her signature technique - fusing brass onto copper wire - she constructs delicate, openwork volumes where the golden elements hold a special significance. In her hands, this gold becomes a vibrant, expressive support - a vital force for overcoming creative and physical challenges.

Her art is an ongoing poetic dialogue with time, exploring the tension between a fleeting moment and the eternal. This philosophy comes to life in her current series, Above Being and Forms Living Now.

Today, Olga lives and works in Novosibirsk. She balances her intense studio practice with family life. As an artist, she finds inspiration in her daily walks to the studio - watching branches against the sky, seeing them as a perfect example of something that truly owns the space.
